We envision a model of progressive education that is rooted in Buddhist wisdom and relevant for all. Through creative explorations into the matrix of universal truths, children will grow to mature into beings who possess the skills to navigate a fast-changing future with dignity and compassion, and who are able to be in the world but not get swayed by it.
Our Vision
Our Mission
Our mission is to nurture childrens’ natural curiosity so that they may mature into future leaders who value deep inquiry and are equipped with those qualities of mind, heart, and body to engage confidently and compassionately with the world, to remain ever-present and aware, and to hold a sense of ownership over their learning and their lives.
As we grow Jataka will:
Graduate students
who are accomplished in the academic skills one would expect; value deep inquiry, are aware of the limits of perception and responsible for their intentions and their actions; who are present and aware, motivated by altruism, confident to engage with the world, emotionally resilient, truly fluent in a second language (and oftentimes in a third), artists no matter their field, great leaders when they can be, good followers when they should be; and at ease beyond their borders.
Provide our team and adult community
an educational home to pursue the science and art of teaching, and a special place to thrive because they choose to be a part of our sphere. With an emphasis on equity and inclusion, we want to align the rewards of teaching more closely with the value it brings to society, and provide our team with opportunities to connect, to grow, and to flourish.
Revitalise the Dharma for our society
in order that each and every one of us can distinguish the timeless essence of the teachings from the transient cultures that have supported them, speak articulately about Buddhist history and practices from the perspective of various traditions, marvel at the ordinary and remain inspired by the extraordinary, understand the fundamental Buddhist view, and have a facility in meditation and contemplation, whether or not we choose to practice or to label ourselves as Buddhists.
Set an example of global interdependency
by running an effective, diverse, and sustainable Buddhist school that is doing its part to document, refine, and contribute to a truly international initiative. And by making our discoveries, large and small, available to colleagues in the cause of a wiser education, and a kinder world.
